4 pilgrims dead as bus collides with truck on Lucknow-Varanasi Highway

NEW DELHI: At least four pilgrims were killed and nine others seriously injured when a bus collided with a truck on Monday morning, police said.The accident occurred around 5am when the bus, carrying devotees from Ayodhya to Varanasi, was travelling on the Lucknow-Varanasi National Highway near Sihipur village.

Superintendent of police, Jaunpur, Dr Kaustubh, said there were 50 people on board. The accident happened when the bus driver attempted to overtake the truck, leading to a severe collision that completely damaged the front portion of the bus.

Locals and police personnel worked together to pull out the injured, who were rushed to the district hospital for treatment.Authorities have seized both the bus and the truck for further investigation.(With inputs from agency)
